MPsc. Baum has more than 8 years of professional experience in specialized areas such as: education, career orientation, psychological and neuropsychological evaluation, group and individual therapy, counseling, crisis intervention, training, and complex care therapy. 

She has been invited to media such as “Giros”, “Café Nacional” and “Radio Azul”. She is the Health Director for the NGO Cadena Costa Rica, member of Equipo de Intervención Psicológica en Emergencias (EIPE) from the Colegio de Profesionales en Psicología de Costa Rica and is currently working with Equipo de Apoyo Psicosocial (EAPS) from Hospital San Juan de Dios during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has participated in several high crisis interventions such as: debriefings after suicide in an institution, crisis intervention and debriefing at a high school in Panamá after the murder of two of their students, tended the UWC students and personnel after the accidental death of a student, and trained 4 teams of police officers from Municipalidad de Escazú and a team from Municipalidad de San José.

She is passionate about mental health and has worked in some of the best health care institutions in Costa Rica such as: Hospital San Juan de Dios, Hospital Calderón Guardia, Hospital Nacional Psiquiátrico, and Hospital Nacional de Niños. She has her own practice in which she treats issues such as crisis intervention, suicide ideation, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal relations, through couple, family and individual therapy. She also trains companies in Psychological First Aid and Crisis Intervention, as well as does pro-bono work with Fundación Nacional de Solidaridad Contra el Cáncer de Mama (FUNDESO).

Debora holds a M.S. in Clinical Psychology, Licentiate Degree in Psychology and a Baccalaureate Degree in Psychology. She is certified in EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), Psycho-Traumatology in the field of “Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)” (Green Cross Academy of Traumatology) and application and interpretation of the Woodcock-Muñoz III Battery of Tests.

Neuropsychological evaluation and psychological evaluation

The psychological evaluation consists in measuring behavior and personality traits using direct observation, questionnaires, scales and psychological tests to integrate both quantitative and qualitative results regarding the person’s performance in order to understand brain function, personality coping mechanism, amongst others to develop a differential diagnosis.

Psychotherapy

According to National Institute of Mental Health, more than 25% of the population suffers from depression, anxiety and other mental heath problems any year. In different times of our lives we are faced with situations that are put out of our control. It’s based in the collaboration between the client and the therapist, through an open dialogue in a neutral and impartial surrounding. Together, the client and the therapist identify which thought and behavior patterns are not allowing the person achieve his/her goals.
